Recently, FANCL has adopted PLA (polylactic acid), a plant-derived biodegradable plastic processed by Takako Chemical Co., Ltd. for cosmetic display racks. These displays, which are made of 100% PLA, have been installed in all directly managed stores since April.
PLA is made from biomass, such as corn, which absorbs carbon dioxide (CO2) during plant growth. Therefore, even if PLA is incinerated, it does not add CO2 to the atmosphere; it is a "carbon neutral" material.
Compared to polyester, CO2 emissions during the production of raw materials are reduced by 1/7th, which contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions during the manufacturing process. In addition, PLA is biodegradable, breaking down into water and CO2 under certain conditions, making it an environmentally friendly material that returns to nature after use.
Established in 1980, FANCL Corporation (FANCL) is one of the largest skincare and health food brands in Japan.
