Casio Computer (Tokyo, Japan) recently announced the latest addition to its PRO TREK outdoor watch line. The new PRW-61 is Casio's first watch made from biomass plastic derived from renewable organic substances. This is the first time Casio has used biomass plastic in a case, strap and case back. This eco-friendly biomass plastic is produced using materials from castor seeds and corn, as well as other raw materials. Casio is proud to offer this new material application to nature lovers with its outdoor tool line PRO TREK.
In recent years, biomass plastics, produced from renewable resources, have gained attention as a material that can help reduce environmental impact by reducing CO2 emissions.
Offering useful outdoor features, this model is equipped with triple sensors (digital compass, barometer/altimeter and thermometer), as well as multi-band radio wave reception from six transmitter stations around the world, and Tough Solar to provide stable power for these features and more. For optimal readability, the design features thick bar hour markers that allow the time, direction and other indicators to be read at a glance, and slits on the strap above and below the dial that can be used as a guide for quickly reading the direction of the compass indicated by the second hand.
As part of its focus on sustainability goals, Casio is pursuing a number of environmental initiatives, including a shift from plastic to recycled paper in the packaging of the PRW-61. Looking ahead, Casio will also contribute to the creation of a circular economy by expanding the use of sustainable materials in the design of other watch models.
