Russian media Alta.news, January 14: The Eurasian Economic Commission is currently working on a draft of a proposed ban on the production and import of single-use plastic products in member states, which is scheduled to begin in April 2022 and be completed in June 2023.
It is reported that the Eurasian Economic Union member states want to understand the adverse impact of plastic products waste on humans and the environment, the difficulty of recycling single-use plastic products and how to gradually limit the use and find alternatives to use, the relevant data will become the basis for a phased ban on the production and import of single-use plastic products legislation.
In 2020, the Eurasian Economic Union has begun discussions on banning the use of single-use plastic products, and the Belarusian State Standards Committee proposed a ban on the circulation of many types of plastic packaging in the Union's territory, which was opposed by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade: economic instruments were proposed in lieu of the ban, such as taxes, expanded producer responsibility and sales restriction requirements, which was supported by the Kazakh side but opposed by the Belarusian and Kyrgyz sides.
