Recently, RyPax, a paper molding company, and CelluComp, a sustainable materials company, partnered to develop an all-fiber bottle with a biodegradable and bio-based inner coating, which has been dubbed the "cracker" of paper bottle packaging.

The bottles are made from a new pulp fiber, a blend of CelluComp's microfibrillated cellulose Curran, a microfibrillated cellulose product derived from root vegetable waste, and bamboo and bagasse, which is thin and strong enough to be used as an internal coating for the bottles instead of a plastic liner.

The Danish Institute of Technology has verified the functionality of this all-fiber bottle and concluded that it is suitable for bottled products in a wide range of industries such as beverages, beauty, health, pharmaceuticals, food, etc., which reduces waste and meets the sustainability requirements of consumers and governments.

RyPax and CelluComp plan to continue working with the Danish Institute of Technology to explore additional fiber packaging solutions such as fiber threads, caps, thinner coatings and more branding options.

Christian Kemp-Griffin, CEO of CelluComp, said, "We have combined the technology, materials and manufacturing expertise of RyPax and CelluComp to create the industry's first all-fiber bottle, which is a tremendous innovation. We have leveraged our unique capabilities and entrepreneurial spirit to create a public benefit corporation in the United States to better serve our customers and realize the design that packaged goods companies and consumers have been waiting for."

RyPax CEO Alvin Lim said, "We have achieved a true barrier packaging breakthrough that will eliminate millions of tons of plastic waste."

Alexander Bardenstein, Business Development Manager at the Danish Technological Institute, said, "This is a collaboration and design that the industry has been waiting for, and we are delighted with the solution. The RyPax&CelluComp bottles have passed all of our comprehensive tests and have been approved by us. They can now begin customizing this technology for the global market."
