On March 6, 2023, IKEA China released a news release stating that IKEA is gradually transitioning from fossil-based adhesives to bio-based adhesives, aiming to reduce the use of fossil-based adhesives by 40% and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from adhesives by 30% by fiscal year 2030.

It is understood that most of IKEA's adhesive consumption is used for panel production, and finding new adhesive solutions is one of the main ways to reduce IKEA's climate footprint. In response, Andreas Rangel Ahrens, Group Climate Leader at IICG, said, "Since 5% of the climate footprint of IICG's value chain originates from adhesives in panels, this initiative will have a positive impact and means that IICG is taking a key step towards limiting global climate change to 1. 5°

In addition, to achieve the transition to 100% bio-based adhesives, IKEA recently launched an accelerated program to pilot new adhesive solutions with external partners.

According to the bio-based adhesives market research report published by Betzels Consulting, the global bio-based adhesives market size reaches 12.232 billion yuan (RMB) in 2021. The global bio-based adhesives market size is expected to reach 25.875 billion yuan by 2027, growing at a CAGR of 13.26%.
