Riman Korea, a Korean cosmetics brand, combines CJ Biomaterials' patented PHA technology with PLA for the packaging of high-end skin care products, totaling 5.4 million products per year.
PLA-PHA bioplastic packaging to be used in Riman Korea
CJ Biomaterials Korea announced on August 23, 2023 that it is working with Korean cosmetics brand Riman Korea to combine its patented PHA technology with polylactic acid (PLA) to create packaging for Riman's INCELLDERM premium line of products, which alone sells more than 5.4 million units annually.
The new packaging is more environmentally friendly and helps reduce the use of fossil fuel packaging for Riman's skincare products, in line with its sustainable packaging initiative.
CJ Biomaterials Korea and Riman also intend to expand their collaboration to develop 100% PHA solutions for injection molding applications.
PHA works well as a modifier for other polymers or biopolymers and can be used to increase biobased content, accelerate biodegradation, and improve functional properties of resins and finished products. The company demonstrates CJ Biomaterials' commitment to sustainability by producing PHA under the brand name PHACT, which stands for PHA + Action, according to the following criteria.
This is another in a series of collaborations in which CJ Biomaterials of Korea has developed products based on its PHA technology. Over the past year, CJ has also announced agreements with NatureWorks, Dongil Platech, Banila Co . , CJ Olive Young and others.
