Polartec has made great strides in sustainable performance fabrics with the introduction of Biolon, a plant-based nylon fiber and film, to two of its popular product lines: Polartec Power Shield and Power Stretch Pro.
Biolon is a renewable, non-GMO plant-based nylon with a 50% lower carbon footprint compared to pure nylon 6,6. Pure Nylon 6, 6 As the gold standard by which all other nylons are measured, Biolon nylon performs closer to Nylon 6, 6 than many of the recycled nylon alternatives currently on the market. Its plant-based content accounts for about half (45-48%) of the nylon's content. This innovation is another win in Polartec's sustainability journey and is in line with Polartec's commitment to sustainability, aiming to incorporate more recycled and bio-based materials into its product range. This helps to reduce the brand's dependence on fossil fuels and its carbon footprint.
Polartec believes that it is everyone's responsibility to leave the world a better place than we found it," said Ramesh Kesh, Senior Vice President, Polartec. The launch of Biolon based products marks an important step in this journey. For a long time, many thought that sustainable options meant a loss of performance, such as durability, Polartec has proven that this is not the case. Challenging a technology that has been recognized as the pinnacle of performance is a daunting task, but the team at Polartec rose to the challenge, and we believe we have created a new standard for sustainability in performance fabrics."
Karen Beattie, Polartec's Director of Product Management, says: "Sustainability is at the heart of what we do at Polartec. We are enhancing our sustainable materials capabilities by exploring new fibers, adopting advanced manufacturing technologies, fostering innovation and collaborating with partners. This holistic approach ensures that Polartec continues to be a leader in creating high-performance textiles, prioritizing environmental responsibility and contributing to a more sustainable future."
