Vyld is a German hygiene company focused on sustainability. The company is best known for its seaweed-based tampons, and they are currently working on a project called Windelwald, or the diaper forest. The project aims to use composted diaper waste as humus fertilizer, turning used diapers into valuable resources. Vyld's diapers feature an algae-based compostable core that is currently being improved for better absorbency.
Sharing their vision, co-founder and CEO Ines Schiller said: “We plan to commercialize, but more development is needed. We need 100 % compostable product while maintaining the same level of performance to convince enough of the wider audience to adopt it.
Vyld's initial foray into seaweed-based hygiene products is Kelpon tampons, which have been in development since 2021.
After a pilot program in German households, the company is preparing to launch a commercial product. Expanding into baby care, they are currently in the experimental stages of designing seaweed diapers. To support this effort, Vyld has partnered with Goldemer, a German company dedicated to increasing access to safe sanitation through sustainable sanitation concepts.
