The Slovenian government decided to ban the sale of single-use plastic products, with a few exceptions. The relevant regulations passed at the communication meeting on August 18 (Wednesday) also stipulate the labeling of certain disposable plastic items and their packaging to raise awareness of recycling.
Products prohibited by this regulation include plastic tableware, dishes and straws, and ear swabs, except for products used as medical devices.
Plastic stirring rods and balloon sticks are also banned, except for those used for industrial purposes and not for customers.
This regulation replaces EU regulations and also prohibits expanded polystyrene food and beverage packaging and articles made of oxidatively degradable plastics. The regulation also stipulates labeling requirements for certain single-use plastic products and their packaging.
The European Commission’s implementing regulations have been issued for labelling rules. The implementing regulations and their amendments stipulate that during the one-year transition period, these products can be labeled. By labeling such products, consumers can learn about the appropriate waste management options or waste disposal methods that should be avoided based on the level of waste, as well as the presence of plastic in the product and the subsequent negative effects of littering or other improper behavior into the environment.
