Green Winter Olympics is an important concept for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, requiring environmental requirements in terms of venue facilities, technical support, and energy use. The Winter Olympics will have a large number of environmentally friendly elements, such as tableware, plastic bags and packaging bags.
1. Biodegradable tableware
This biodegradable tableware is produced by fermenting renewable resources such as corn, potatoes and crop straw, and further purified and polymerized to prepare high purity polylactic acid as raw material production.
PLA is a representative of new bio-based materials that are fully biodegradable and is a cost-effective biodegradable environmental polymer material. Compared with traditional petroleum-based materials, each ton of PLA can reduce about 3 tons of CO2.
This is because PLA has good biodegradability and is completely degraded by microorganisms to eventually produce carbon dioxide and water. Compared to common plastics that are disposed of by incineration, resulting in large greenhouse gas emissions into the air, PLA's carbon emissions from raw materials to polymer production are about 1/3 of those of the common plastic polyethylene.
These biodegradable tableware, in the use and biodegradation process does not produce toxic and harmful substances, has a certain resistance to bacteria, flame retardant and UV resistance, can be described as healthy and environmentally friendly and safe.
2. Biodegradable plastic bags
In order to reduce white pollution during the event, Beijing Petroleum, a subsidiary of Sinopec, donated 100,000 biodegradable plastic bags to Zhang Shanying, the town where the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games will be held in Yanqing.
Compared with the common biodegradable plastic, the plastic has better thermal stability, mechanical properties, made of plastic bags more durable; and excellent biodegradability, in composting conditions can be completely degraded to water and carbon dioxide, can effectively reduce white pollution.
3. Biodegradable packaging bags
Beijing Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics uniform equipment in the design, production, distribution and other aspects also strive to practice the concept of green and sustainable. For example, the yarn used in the equipment storage bag is recycled from waste plastic products to produce environmentally friendly yarn; the packaging bag is made of biodegradable masterbatch, with a degradation rate of more than 90% in 180 days.
