Tesla leather supplier Ultrafabrics and its partner Tapis have launched AV Bio bio-based performance fabrics, the company has learned.
Ultrafabrics' Aerospace AV Bio Technology
AV Bio is made from certified sustainable Tencel Modal fibers derived from a composition of Susterra propylene glycol, bio-based resins, in addition to recycled Repreve polyester and sustainable Ecovero rayon fibers for the backing.
AV Bio is now primarily used in automotive seating, incorporating renewable, plant-based materials into its multi-layer construction to reduce dependence on finite resources. The materials are designed to provide the ultimate in comfort and durability, enhancing the passenger experience while meeting stringent transportation standards.
In addition, Ultrafabrics has made numerous advances in the field of bio-based materials:
1.In May 2021, Ultrafabrics plans to introduce biobased ingredients in 50% of its new products by 2025 and to biobase 100% of its new products by 2030.
2. In December 2021, Ultrafabrics launched Volar Bio bio-based animal skin substitute, which is made from 29% plant-based materials using wood pulp and corn by-products as the primary raw materials, in addition to releasing Volar Bio in six new colors to further diversify its bio-based product selection.
