Playmobil, part of the German manufacturer Geobra Brandstätter Group, has decided to fully utilize bio-based raw materials for mass balance distribution in its children's product line. They first implemented this initiative in the Playmobil Junior toy line with the introduction of bio-distributed plastics.

This bio-based ingredient is derived from food residues and paper industry waste and is used as an alternative to traditional fossil feedstocks. These bio-based materials are ISCC Plus certified and are used in resins for the production of toys through mass balance methods. This ensures that the properties and performance of the materials are not compromised while reducing the carbon footprint of the product.

Of particular note is the fact that Playmobil Junior products contain up to 90% bio-distributed raw materials. Likewise, for environmental reasons, the product packaging is made of 90% recycled cardboard and 100% recycled paper.

The first game kits are available this month and the conversion of the entire product line is expected to be complete by the middle of this year. This decision is a positive response to growing environmental concerns and is in line with consumer expectations. According to a survey commissioned by Playmobil, up to 80% of parents interviewed in Germany and China consider the use of sustainable materials to be an important criterion when choosing toys.
