Toppan and Toppan FutureCard, a global end-to-end card solutions provider in the UAE, have received the first sustainable industry certification from MasterCard, a global payments technology company, for their PLA and recycled PVC cards.

Last year, Toppan Future Card successfully launched the OXYGEN card, a diversified eco-friendly card made of sustainable materials.

The two eco-friendly cards with the MasterCard Sustainability badge are OxyCYCLE PVCr, made of 100% recycled PVC cardstock, and OxyPLANT PLA, made of 100% biodegradable corn starch-based cardstock.

In order to make environmentally friendly choices the preferred choice for all financial institutions, MasterCard has developed a sustainability card program to evaluate sustainability claims. According to current industry benchmarks, cards made from recyclable, recyclable, bio-sourced, chlorine-free or marine plastics that significantly reduce energy consumption, material consumption, carbon footprint and waste will carry the Sustainable Card badge. Each year, the benchmark will increase as the overall level of sustainability improves, continuing to contribute to better environmental stewardship.

As a smart card supplier that produces millions of plastic cards every month, developing an environmental strategy to protect the environment has become one of Toppan Future Card's main concerns. "Our goal at Toppan is to meaningfully reduce the overall environmental impact of card production. Launching greener cards that only have an impact on our carbon footprint is not enough for us - we want to launch a broad portfolio of sustainable cards that significantly reduce the overall environmental impact", says Managing Director Jean-Pierre Ting of Toppan Future Cards.

Receiving MasterCard's sustainability certification and badge allows Toppan Future Card to stand out with its eco-friendly cards and enables consumers to choose sustainable cards that significantly reduce their environmental impact.
